A new way to replace solid stainless —
stainless clad plate.

Cut raw material cost by 10%–50%

Relyon Metals supplies explosion-bonded stainless clad plate, cold-rolled and hot-rolled stainless clad plate, stainless clad pipe, and a full range of stainless steel materials — engineered so the corrosion-resistant surface never separates from the steel that carries the load.

Why it is better

Why is stainless clad plate better?

Have you ever thought that the material you are using can, while keeping the same safety and the same quality and the same dimensions, save you 10%–50% of the raw material cost simply by replacing part of it with another material — and at the same time give it the performance of that other metal? Then you must not miss it: stainless clad plate.

Where the 10%–50% comes from

Single-sided clad is normally 30%–50% cheaper than the solid stainless it replaces. Double-sided cold-rolled clad is the conservative case: some gauges save about 10%, and the saving grows with thickness and with the choice of core material — up to 50%. That is why we quote a range: 10%–50% cheaper than the material it replaces.

What it is

What is a stainless clad plate?

Two metals bonded into one plate. The base — carbon steel, low-alloy steel, or a more economical stainless such as 201 — carries the load and the pressure; a stainless or nickel-alloy cladding layer is metallurgically fused onto the face that meets the medium. It is a bond, not a coating — ≥210 MPa shear strength at the interface, verified 100% by ultrasonic testing.

How clad plate is made

Not sure which construction your project needs? Send us the medium, the pressure and the thickness and we will tell you — single-sided, double-sided or explosion-bonded.

Construction and thickness
4–16 mm
Single-sided — hot-rolled
Hot-rolled bonding only. One corrosion-resistant face, one carbon steel back.
0.8–12 mm
Double-sided — cold-rolled & hot-rolled
Both processes available, from thin cold-rolled gauge up to hot-rolled plate. Stainless on both faces.
8–300 mm
Explosion-bonded
For heavy plate beyond the rolling window — the thickest option we offer.

Thickness shown is the total sheet — base steel plus cladding, not the cladding alone. As a rule: thin and double-sided goes cold-rolled; 4–16 mm single-sided goes hot-rolled; heavy sections go to explosion bonding.

Beyond stainless. The same explosion-bonding line joins titanium, copper, aluminium, nickel alloys, zirconium, tantalum and niobium onto carbon or low-alloy steel — with the standard shear and service-temperature limits shown pair by pair. See the metal-pair table

What we supply

One supplier, from clad plate
to the full stainless range

Three product families that cover most corrosion-resistant projects — a cost-optimised clad solution, a pipe solution for long-distance service, and the ordinary stainless materials a fabricator needs alongside them.

Stainless Steel Clad Plate

A corrosion-resistant alloy fused onto a carbon or low-alloy steel base. Single-sided or double-sided, explosion bonded or hot-rolled, in the thickness combinations your design calls for.

  • Cladding 0.5–20 mm · total thickness 0.8–300 mm by process
  • Up to 4,000 × 15,000 mm, explosion bonded
  • Hairline, mirror, embossed and PVD finishes
  • Bends, rolls and cuts like ordinary steel

Clad Pipe, Tube & Fittings

The same composite idea formed into a tube: a corrosion-resistant bore on a pressure-bearing steel wall. Metallurgically bonded clad pipe and clad square and rectangle tube, plus mechanically lined pipe where the service allows it.

  • Outer diameter 25–2,134 mm, wall thickness 6–70 mm
  • Clad pipe metallurgically bonded, shear ≥210 MPa
  • Single lengths up to 12 m — fewer field welds
  • Clad square & rectangle tube for structures
  • Matching elbows, tees, reducers and flanges

Stainless Steel Materials

A stocked range of stainless steel in every common product form, from everyday 304 and 316L through to duplex, super duplex and nickel alloys — with the material certificates to go with them.

  • Plate, sheet, coil and strip
  • Seamless and welded pipe & tube
  • Bar, rod, flats and profiles
  • Fittings, flanges and fasteners

Why clad steel plate instead of all-alloy

You are paying for all-alloy metal
to do the job of a few millimetres.

In a solid stainless vessel or pipeline, only the surface that touches the medium needs alloy. Everything behind it is there to hold pressure — and carbon steel does that job just as well, for a fraction of the price.

01
Two metals, two jobs
The base steel is selected for strength and pressure rating. The cladding is selected for corrosion resistance. Neither one compromises the other.
02
A metallurgical bond, not a lining
The interface is fused at the atomic level, so the clad surface behaves as part of the pipe wall. It will not peel, blister or creep away from the base steel under thermal cycling or pressure reversal.
03
Fabricated with ordinary steel tools
Cutting, bending, rolling, welding and machining follow normal carbon steel practice. Your existing workshop, procedures and welders can handle it.

Quality you can audit

Every plate is tested.
Then it is tested again.

A clad plate fails in service for one reason: a bond that was never fully bonded. That is why the whole surface — not a sample of it — goes through ultrasonic inspection before it leaves the works, and why every delivery travels with a full material test certificate.

Export service

Delivered the way overseas
projects actually need it

Export packing
Sea-worthy crates, steel-strapped bundles, edge protection and moisture barrier. Plate and pipe are packed to survive a tropical voyage, not just a truck ride.
Complete documents
Material test certificate to EN 10204 3.1, packing list, commercial invoice, bill of lading, certificate of origin (Form E / RCEP) and any inspection release note you require.
Terms & delivery
FOB Shanghai or Tianjin, CIF to major world ports. T/T or L/C at sight. Minimum order 4 tonnes per specification. Partial shipments and mixed steel grade containers are welcome.
Technical support
We will review your specification, suggest the steel grade and thickness combination, and flag where a cheaper answer would do the same job. Answers within one working day.
Made for the world's toughest climates

Tropical humidity, coastal salt spray and freeze-thaw cycles are hard on ordinary steel. For export markets worldwide we routinely supply 304 and 316L plate with passivated and protected surfaces, 2205 duplex for chloride and seawater service, and moisture-barrier export packing specified for the long ocean voyage rather than the domestic run.

Next step

Send us your drawing,
specification or inquiry list.

Tell us the medium, the temperature, the pressure and the quantity. We will come back with the steel grade, the thickness combination, a weight calculation and a price — usually within one working day.
